Watercolor in Provence

• Interpréter un sujet est la chose la plus importante dans la création d’une peinture. Copier ce qui est devant nous – en nature ou en photo – n’a jamais donné une bonne peinture. Et pourtant, si on veut exprimer l’émotion qu’on ressent il faut essayer de capter les plus de détails (ou d’informations) possible … en gardant finalement que l’essentiel.

• To interpret a subject is the most important thing when you are creating a painting. You never will get a good painting if you copy what you see (from life or photo). But if you want to transmit your emotion, try to register as many details (or information) as possible … to keep finally only the essential.

• Die Interpretation eines Motivs ist für mich das Wichtigste bei der Kreation eines Aquarells. Nur abzumalen, was man vor sich sieht – sei es nun nach der Natur oder vom Foto -  hat noch nie ein gutes Bild ergeben. Und dennoch, will man das Gefühl ausdrücken, das man beim Betrachten empfindet, muss man versuchen, soviel Details (oder Informationen) wie möglich zu registrieren … um dann schließlich nur die wesentlichen zu verwenden.

• La récolte du lavandin et de la lavande a commencée au pays de SAULT. Les distilleries sont mises en route. Faut faire vite, si vous voulez voir – et peindre – ces paysages magnifiques aux couleurs bleu/ gris/ violets et jaune (champs de Petit épeautre et blé). Peut-être on se verra au marché hebdomadaire de Sault qui a lieu tous les mercredi matins depuis l’an 1515.

• Die Ernte von Lavendel und Lavandin hat jetzt auf den Feldern um Sault begonnen; Die Destillen rauchen. Man muss sich beeilen, wenn man diese tollen Landschaften mit ihrem blau/grau/violetten und strohgelben (kleiner Dinkel und Weizen) Farben sehen und malen will. Vielleicht sieht man sich auf dem Wochenmarkt in Sault, der jeden Mittwochmorgen seit dem Jahre 1515 abgehalten wird.

• Harvest of lavender and lavandin (hybrid lavender) has begun around Sault. The distilleries are running. You have to hurry up if you want to visit these amazing landscapes in blue/grey/violet and yellow (spelt and wheat) colours and – of course – paint them. See you on the market of Sault which is taking place every Wednesday morning since 1515!
