Aquarelle – watercolour on Montval 300 g/m², 13×18 cm

A l’occasion de l’anniversaire d’une amie à Mormoiron j’ai peint une troisième aquarelle du « Jazz manouche ». Cette fois j’ai pris le papier Montval de Canson que je déconseille d’habitude aux débutants. Ce papier est difficile à travailler à l’aquarelle car il faut peindre très vite si on veut éviter des auréoles et taches. Mais ces effets donnent en même temps une possibilité de rendre la peinture plus libre et dynamique.

As a birthday gift for a friend in Mormoiron I painted a third version of « Jazz manouche ». This time I used the Canson Montval paper which I normally do not recommend at least for beginners. This paper is difficult to paint on as you have to work very quickly if you want to avoid backruns and spots. But these effects give us the possibility to make the painting looking looser and more dynamic.

Als Geburtstagsgeschenk für eine Freundin in Mormoiron malte ich ein drittes Aquarell „Jazz manouche” (Zigeunerjazz). Dieses Mal auf Canson Montval Papier, das ich normalerweise zumindest Anfängern nicht empfehle, da man sehr schnell arbeiten muss, wenn man Ausblühungen und Flecken vermeiden will. Aber diese Effekte bieten gleichzeitig die Möglichkeit, das Bild dynamischer und freier zu gestalten.

Aquarelle – watercolour on Arches 300 g/m², 30×40 cm

Une deuxième version plus grande de « jazz manouche ». La composition me plait plus, les musiciens sont moins suspendus dans l’espace. Mais j’ai l’impression que j’ai perdu du mouvement et que la scène ne swingue plus comme avant (ou je me trompe ?)

This is a bigger version of “jazz manouche”. The composition has changed and the musicians don’t fly in space any more. But I feel I lost some of the dynamics and rythm and have less the impression of a swinging scene now, right?

Eine etwas größere Variante des Aquarells „jazz manouche“ (Zigeunerjazz). Die Komposition ist etwas kompakter und die Musiker schweben nicht mehr im Raum. Gleichzeit hat sie aber etwas von ihrer Dynamik eingebüßt und man hat weniger den Eindruck, dass das Ganze swingt (oder täusche ich mich?)

Il y a quelques jours on a assisté à un concert du DACUTSA TRIO qui jouait au Hangar Lamy à Mormoiron. Un groupe dans le style traditionnel de Django Reinhard et d’autres musiciens manouche. J’ai pris quelques photos et j’ai fait une aquarelle à l’atelier.

Some days ago we attended a concert of the DACUTSA TRIO at Hangar Lamy in Mormoiron, a group of 3 musicians playing Django Reinhardt style gypsy jazz. I took some photos and made this watercolour painting at the studio.

Vor ein paar Tagen waren wir beim Zigeuner-Jazzkonzert des DACUTSA TRIO im Hangar Lamy in Mormoiron. Nicht nur, dass der Saal lediglich ein paar hundert Meter von unserem Domizil entfernt ist (kein Auto, nur eine Taschenlampe !), die Musiker waren ebenfalls top und die Atmosphäre entspannt. Ich schoss ein paar Fotos und malte dann im Atelier dieses Aquarell.
