• Une journée magnifique avant hier à Aix en Provence à flâner sur le Cours Mirabeau. Des nombreux monuments et sculptures attendent le peintre à sortir crayons et couleurs. Je m’arrêtais à la fontaine de la Rotonde avec ses trois grâces (Justice, Agriculture et Beaux-Arts). Si vous avez l’occasion de peindre à Aix n’attendez pas trop: l’eau va être coupée dans pas longtemps et la fontaine aura perdue beaucoup de son charme.

• It was a beautiful day to stroll along the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. Numerous sculptures and monuments are waiting for the painter. I decided to sketch the three graces of the Rotonde fountain. One is directed to the city of Aix (Justice) the other towards Marseille (Agriculture), the third one faces towards Avignon, she represents Fine Arts. If you have the opportunity to paint in Aix, hurry up, the water will soon be turned off and the fountain will lose a lot of its charm.

• Samstag war ein schöner Tag zum Flanieren auf dem Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. Zahlreiche Denkmäler und Skulpturen laden den Maler ein, Skizzenbuch und Wasserfarben aus dem Sack zu holen. Ich habe mich für die drei Grazien der Fontaine de la Rotonde entschieden. Eine stellt die Justitia dar (schaut Richtung Stadt), die andere die Landwirtschaft (nach Süden – Marseille) und die dritte, die der Schönen Künste, schaut Richtung Avignon. Falls Sie Gelegenheit haben, in Aix zu malen: keine Zeit verlieren, denn bald wird das Wasser abgestellt und der Brunnen wird erheblich von seinem Charme verloren haben.

Pont romain Vaison la Romaine,  linogravure aquarellée, 18 x 13 cm

• Pour faire une gravure il faut inverser l’image. La plaque est couverte d’une fine couche de gouache blanche. Une copie noir et blanc du motif est très utile pour vérifier l’image.

• You have to cut the the linoplate mirror inverted. A thin layer of white gouache is useful to draw on the brown lino plate. I am using an inverted black and white copy of the image to control the drawing.

• Der Druckstock muss spiegelbildlich geschnitten werden. Man überzieht die braune Platte mit weißer Deckfarbe (Gouache), um die Zeichnung besser zu sehen. Eine gespiegelte schwarz-weiß Kopie hilft beim kontrollieren der Linoleumplatte.

peinture pas à pas – painting step by step – Schritt für Schritt:

• Ici l’Ouvèze coule tranquillement sous le pont gallo-romain de Vaison la Romaine mais elle n’a pas toujours été si calme (voir photo) depuis la construction du pont  il y a presque deux siècles.

• The river Ouvèze runs quietly through the town of Vaison la Romaine crossed by the gallo-roman bridge. But it has not been always so peaceful (see figure) since the bridge has been constructed almost two thousand years ago.

• Die Ouvèze fließt beschaulich unter der gallo-romanischen Brücke von Vaison la Romaine. Aber sie war nicht immer so friedlich (siehe Bild) seit der Erbauung der Brücke von fast zweitausend Jahren.
